1. Join the Local Abolitionists: Partner with us to help raise awareness around this issue in the Chicagoland area. We’re always looking for new organizations and people to partner with. Contact Us if you’d like to join our team

2. Get Educated: Learn the Facts About Modern-Day Slavery (statistics gathered by International Justice Mission). Read the Trafficking In Persons Report from the U.S. Department of State.

3. Write Your Elected Officials: Call or write your elected officials. Tell them that you care about the issue of human trafficking and want stronger laws to protect victims and greater resources to fight the cause. Get updates from organizations like IJM and Polaris Project on current efforts in political action and advocacy. Visit IJM Justice Campaigns or Polaris Project’s U.S. Policy Program.

4. Abolitionist Organizations: These are just a sampling of the many organizations and movements working in the battle against modern-day slavery.

5. The Child Protection Compact Act of 2009 (HR 2737): On June 5, Representatives Chris Smith (R-NJ) and Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) introduced the Child Protection Compact Act of 2009, legislation designed to increase U.S. support to eradicate child trafficking in countries that have the will to end the crime but lack resources.
