2. Get Educated: Learn the Facts About Modern-Day Slavery (statistics gathered by International Justice Mission). Read the Trafficking In Persons Report from the U.S. Department of State.
3. Write Your Elected Officials: Call or write your elected officials. Tell them that you care about the issue of human trafficking and want stronger laws to protect victims and greater resources to fight the cause. Get updates from organizations like IJM and Polaris Project on current efforts in political action and advocacy. Visit IJM Justice Campaigns or Polaris Project’s U.S. Policy Program.

5. The Child Protection Compact Act of 2009 (HR 2737): On June 5, Representatives Chris Smith (R-NJ) and Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) introduced the Child Protection Compact Act of 2009, legislation designed to increase U.S. support to eradicate child trafficking in countries that have the will to end the crime but lack resources.
